Nettie Anne Aker, Born and raised in Chicago and joined the United States Army in 1950 being stationed at bases throughout the country and in Japan where she met her husband of 57 years, Don Aker, of Glen Ridge, NJ.
Nettie and Don settled in West Orange where they raised their family, a daughter and four sons. Nettie served as president of the Washington Street School Parent Teacher Organization for two years.
In 1968 the Aker Family moved to the Jersey Shore and settled in Belmar where their children attended St. Rose Grammar School and High School, Manasquan and Asbury Park High Schools.
Nettie and Don met many of the local residents of Belmar at “Lynch’s” on 4th and Ocean while watching basketball. The Gerry Lynch Social and Athletic Club was the beginning of many activities for Nettie. She served as an officer in the original Gerry Lynch Social and Athletic Club and became part of the Committee for the first St. Patrick’s Day Parade 40 years ago.
Nettie will be marching with her husband Don, the greatest pride and joy of their lives, their four children, nine grand children and three great grand children.
