Our Grand Marshall is Howell resident Laurence Walsh. Larry’s paternal grandparents emigrated from County Sligo. Larry grew up in a home in filled with Irish traditions that still carry on today. Larry, his wife Kathy, son Sean and daughter Jillian reside in the Ramtown section of Howell.
Larry was born in Philadelphia, PA raised in Langhorne, PA and attended Our Lady of Grace Grammar School, Bishop Eagan High School and Oklahoma State University.
Larry’s extended family has a strong commitment to the Belmar, St. Patrick’s Day parade. Larry started volunteering for the parade 14 years ago. He moved from a section coordinator to the starter for the parade. Over the past 14 years Larry has recruited many family members to aid him during the parade. Each year Larry’s brother Christopher drives from York, PA to volunteer his time. His sisters Barbara Walsh (Royersford, PA) and Morna Zeglin (Levittown, PA) have volunteered through the years in different capacities. Larry has been involved with NJ Irish festival for many years as part of their logistic team. Larry’s son Sean joined the parade volunteer committee while in Middle School and continues to volunteer to this day. Larry’s daughter Jillian has marched for the past 4 years in the parade with her National Championship cheer squad.
Larry believes that volunteering is the best way to bring together people in a community to achieve a goal. Throughout his years Larry has been involved in many different organizations. Larry has been a dedicated board member to Howell South Little League serving as Field Maintenance coordinator for six years. He continues to volunteer as the Community Service coordinator for the league. Larry has coached for Howell South Little League, as well as, for the Howell Basketball Club. He served as a Den Leader for Pack 515 in Howell. As a member of the Howell Elks lodge 2515, Larry has helped to coordinate past Elk’s Hoop Shoot and Batter Ups contests. Larry is a parishioner of the Church of the Epiphany in Brick, NJ. He is 4 degree member of the Knights of Columbus in York, PA. Each Spring Larry and his son Sean volunteer at the Belmar 5K run.
Larry, Kathy, Sean and Jillian are looking forward to their trip to Ireland this summer to visit with family and do some sightseeing.
